Colon cancer is cancer of the colon or rectum. It is also called colorectal cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Ontario for both men and women.
The colon is where your food is digested and poo is formed.
Screening for colon cancer is done using a FOBT, this stands for Fecal Occult Blood Test.

- Is a take-home test
- Looks for blood in your poo/stool.
- Is for men and women aged 50 years and over.
- Should be done every two years.
If you have a family history of colon cancer then you can talk to your doctor about having a colonoscopy. This test lets your doctor look inside your colon.
